FRP Chajja vs. Traditional RCC Window Sheds: Engineering & Durability Evaluation

For decades, window protection in Indian buildings was dominated by RCC (Reinforced Cement Concrete) chajjas cast during slab execution. Today, developers such as Godrej Properties, Ashwin Sheth, and Shreepati Group are transitioning to prefabricated FRP Chajjas. Here is why:

1. Elimination of Spalling & Structural Weight: RCC chajjas are notoriously vulnerable to water infiltration through micro-cracks. As internal rebar rusts, it expands up to 400%, spalling the concrete and creating serious hazardous falling risks on high-rise facades. FRP is completely corrosion-proof and weighs approximately 80% less than equivalent concrete.

2. Waterproofing & Grouting Flange: Sadguru FRP Chajjas are manufactured with an integrated 25-50mm wall insertion flange. The contractor cuts a clean slot in the masonry, inserts the flange, anchors with 12mm mechanical fasteners, and seals with neutral cure silicone. This guarantees zero water seepage into the interior window lintel.

3. Construction Speed: While RCC requires costly shuttering, curing for 14-21 days, and manual plastering, Sadguru FRP Chajjas arrive factory-finished with desired RAL pigment gelcoats, ready to install at the rate of dozens of units per day per team.
